Radon Action Month – 2020

January 28, 2020

I just attended a class on Radon today and it just so happens to be Radon Action Month.  Radon is probably something you don’t hear much about unless you are in the process of buying or selling a home. But for safety considerations, it is something you should be paying attention to.

Radon is a odorless, colorless gas that comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water under your home. It is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Here in Loudoun County, we are in Zone 1 for Radon.  There are only three zones, and zone one happens to have the largest concentrations of Radon.

You should re-test your levels every two years, even if you have a remediation system.  The EPA strongly recommends that the Radon levels fall between 2-4 4 pCi/L.  You can bring in a professional to test but you can also order an at home test kit for under $20, click here: Radon Test Kits

As always, if you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
